2010 Services

Our Services

information or to make an appointment.  Office hours are 8:00 to 5:00 Monday through Friday.

Tutoring

Individual and small groups: $40 to $60 per session

All subjects, ages 4 and up: 1-2 hour sessions

Academic support is for students who want to build their skills in specific subjects with a certified teacher.

 

 

Home School Support
Access to learning center, materials, and tutors.  Home schooled students
may select monthly instructional support or hourly support by appointment.         

(9am-4pm;Mon-Fri)

Home schooled students may schedule drop-in days and times by the hour for testing, monitoring, portfolio development, etc. 

A fee will be determined by the service provided.
Academic support for home schooled students during school hours is provided by certified and trained teachers and staff.      

Academic Recovery
Tutoring and curriculum development: individual rates apply    

An academic program that creates a systematic plan of development utilizing individualized instruction for each child's optimal learning.  Students' academic skills are remediated while their plan allows them to transition back into a traditional educational environment.

Play and Art Therapy

Denise Weller

Play allows children a safe psychological distance from their problems and to express their true thoughts and feelings in ways best suited to their developmental level.

 

Play Therapy allows trained play therapists to assess and understand children's play and to use it in assisting the child in coping with difficult emotions and in finding solutions to their problems. Sessions by appointnment only.

 

Boy's and Girl'sClub

Boys and girls ages 9-12: $15 per week (for activities and/or supplies)

Self Esteem groups are a safe space for girls  and boys to meet with a trained facilitator and other children their age to share experiences and explore topics of concern.  The ultimate goal is to build a stronger sense of self as young men and women. Excursions, special events and activities are planned by participants.  Male mentors facilitate the boys group and female mentors facilitate the girls group.   Maximum enrollment is 10 for each group. 

Educational Kinesiology(Brain Gym) by appointment only
Group classes: $10.00 per class 
Individual counseling: $35.00 per hour
Brain Gym teaches specific excercises to help improve brain functions to lead to get better focus and concentration, more fluent reading, critical thinking skills, emotional release and anger control.

Parent Support Groups
Positive Discipline classes: $100.00 per 8 week class                                      
Positive Parent Counseling: $35.00 per hour
Positive Discipline focuses on teaching strategies to keep children encouraged, working under the premise that misbehaving children are discouraged children. Groups are planned as requested.

Advocacy Support Services

Specialized services are available for families with special needs and circumstances.  Services may include:

  • service planning, research,  referral and coordination
  • excort services to schools, court, social services, appointments, etc.
  • assistance with citizenship: through classes, referrals and completion of paperwork
  • referrals to services and professionals in the community

Summer Academic Programs
Thematic academic and activity based academic camps including special events and field trips are offered. Instruction/supervision offered by certified teachers and program aides. Special Programs will be announced when they are offered.

 

OTHER PROGRAMS

*Special programs - sponsored by Barstow Acres Children's Center

*Academic Workshops  for Parents (4 or 8 sessions) to assist parents in helping their child academically

*Advocacy and support Group - for parents of children with special needs (4-8 sessions)
